Welcome back!
This week reminded me of something I forget often: we’re allowed to hold more than one truth at a time.
This Sunday, our theme for reflection is Two Truths.
I’ve felt a little lonely this week. When that feeling showed up, I noticed how quickly I tried to talk myself out of it, convincing myself I shouldn’t feel that way because I’m not alone. I know I have people that care about me. That reflex to shut down my own feelings reminded me how easily we try to force ourselves into one truth, even when our inner world is trying to tell us there’s more going on.
Two things can be true.
Just like different perspectives can coexist, so can the different truths within us. I genuinely believe we cause ourselves the most suffering when we convince ourselves we have to choose, when we try to force our lives into either/or.
Life isn’t just a series of contradictions, it’s a whole web of truths. Freedom comes when we let all of them sit beside each other without rushing to make sense of them. You don’t resolve inner tension by picking a side. You heal by letting your truths coexist.
This week, I invite you to hold all of your truths. To let them be there, even if they feel confusing, contradictory, or uncomfortable.
Here are six journal prompts to explore, one for each dimension of your perspective:
Personal History
I'm disappointed by the way you showed up in the past AND I'm thankful for what we've built in the present.
What two truths exist in your story?
Environment
I wish to be elsewhere in the world AND I appreciate the world of happiness I've created here.
What two truths exist in where you are now?
Beliefs
I am comfortable living in uncertainty AND I still long for answers.
What two truths exist in your belief system?
Emotions
My heart feels heavy AND my cup overflows with gratitude.
What two truths are your emotions trying to tell you?
Relationships
I feel lonely and I need community AND I have people who care deeply about me.
What two truths exist in your relationships?
Identity
I am sad that I am not yet where I aspire to be AND I am proud of how far I've come.
What two truths exist in the way you see yourself ?
You don’t have to simplify yourself to be understood. Your truths don’t cancel each other out, they complete each other.
Until next week,
