Multi-Dimensional: Life really is what you make it

"Life is what you make it."

A quote I remember hearing all the time growing up. As cliché as it sounds, it actually hit me this week.

Last Monday, I was doing what we all do, mindlessly scrolling Instagram, when I came across a post from a girl I met in college. Her life online honestly feels like a ray of sunshine. She always looks like she’s having fun, surrounded by people she loves, just enjoying life.

Now, I know social media is a highlight reel. I’m sure there’s more to her life than what’s shown. Still, every time I see her posts, I catch myself admiring how genuinely full and fun her life looks.

She had just posted a photo with her family at a Halloween party. They went all out with costumes and decorations, and it looked like such a good time. I wasn’t planning on dressing up this year. We didn’t have big plans, just passing out candy, and I told myself it wasn’t worth it. But I felt this little ache seeing her photos. Like, I miss having fun like that. My mom used to go all out for Halloween too, and I loved it.

And then it hit me. I don’t have to wait for fun to show up. If I want it, I can create it.

So my husband and I went to Spirit Halloween.

We chose some ridiculous costumes, played music, carved pumpkins with family, and handed out candy like it was an event. And honestly? We had so much fun! It ended up being one of my favorite nights in a long time.

Life doesn’t get fuller by chance, it gets fuller by choice. From what you are willing to create and make of it.

Below are 6 journal prompts for you to explore, one for each dimension of your perspective.

Personal History

What did “fun” look like for you growing up, and when did you stop letting yourself have it that way?

Environment

How could you make your current space or routine feel more alive, playful, or inspiring with what you already have?

Beliefs

Do you believe joy is something you find, or something you build? What experiences have shaped that belief?

Emotions

When was the last time you let yourself feel pure joy without guilt, comparison, or overthinking?

Relationships

Who in your life makes ordinary moments feel special, and how could you create more of those moments together?

Identity

If your life was a reflection of how you want to feel, what would it look like right now?

Until next week,
