Personal History
This past Friday, we celebrated the Fourth of July, America’s Independence Day. Beyond fireworks and flag-waving, there’s history. Complex, layered, and still unfolding.
Whether you live in the U.S. or elsewhere, consider your nation’s story.
What history has built the foundation for your current reality?
Environment
Yellow is the color often associated with happiness, joy, and creativity.
Sometimes it shows up in big ways, and other times it’s just a small reminder—light shining in a corner of your home, a book that makes you feel alive, or a moment that brightens your day.
What are the “yellow” parts of your environment, the ones sparking inspiration and bringing you joy?
Beliefs
We always think about the cost of if we do. We rarely think about the cost of if we don't.
What are you afraid might happen if you act, and what might you lose if you don’t?
Emotions
Last week, I picked up a copy of The Describer's Dictionary by David Grambs and Ellen S. Levine.
There’s an entire section devoted to describing people, their temperament, behavior, and personality traits. (Side note: learning how to accurately describe people is way harder than I expected!)
It’s packed with options, but here are a few that stood out to me as likely being the most common: mature, immature, humble, lively, sensible, eager, mischievous, charming, odd, challenging, assertive, awkward, pious, anxious, expressionless, shy, regal, arrogant, careful, defensive.
How would you describe your temperament?
Relationships
I just had the most insightful conversation with someone I’ve seen in passing more than a dozen times.
It was the first time we really talked, beyond the usual hi and bye. It reminded me that sometimes we don’t need to go far or meet someone new. We just need to meet the people we already know in a new way.
Who’s someone you’ve always seen in passing but have never really gotten to know?
Identity
From my journal entry on July 1st:
I keep waiting to look in the mirror and say, "this is you".... and I never do. It's funny, every time I think I have arrived in an identity, I end up feeling trapped, and it makes me want to start running.
How do you cope when the person you thought you were no longer fits?
Until next week,
