Multi-Dimensional: Are you being buried or planted?

Below are 6 journal prompts for you to explore, one for each dimension of your perspective.

Personal History

"Sometimes you will never truly know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory." — Dr. Seuss

Think about a moment that now feels more valuable in hindsight. What did you learn from it that you didn’t realize at the time?

Environment

One of the best ways to understand the people around you is to understand the environments that have shaped them—or the ones they're currently immersed in. This week, I challenge you to ask someone you care about to share a bit more about their world.

Beliefs

"Sometimes when you're in a dark place, you tend to think you have been buried; but what if you have been planted?" — Christine Caine

When I think back on the darkest times in my life, this quote really hits home. Every one of those moments nurtured a new version of me. It’s a small shift in perspective, but a powerful one. Each hardship adds something to who we’re becoming and to the story we’re here to tell.

What part of your story was planted in the dark?

Emotions

Happiness. Hope. Courage. Acceptance.

These are a few of the emotions Spring has brought me. What emotions has Spring brought you?

Relationships

There’s a valuable lesson to be learned from every person we meet.

A longtime family friend came to visit us for our wedding, traveling all the way from Santiago, Chile. As I got ready to say goodbye—or rather, see you later—I was already missing the energy she brings into every room.

From her, I’ve learned that while life is short, it’s also long. I’ve learned to slow down, be present, savor the moment, laugh a little louder, and inquire a little deeper. She shows up fully in every interaction—curious, open, and eager to know the stories that shaped the person in front of her. Her presence is infectious, and you can’t help but smile when she’s around.

Think of someone who is a bright light in your life. What lessons have they taught you?

Identity

For most of us, identity doesn’t exist in isolation. It’s often shaped by one or more of the five dimensions of perspective.

Take a moment to reflect on your sense of self. Is it primarily rooted in your past, the experiences that shaped you? In your environment, the place you live or come from? In your beliefs or faith? In your emotions and how you process them? Or in your relationships with others?

Until next week,
